Great Aussie Caravans

76Tourin Tell us about their new Van Life – Week One of their Big Lap

Week one on the road is complete. It’s been so surreal as this has been a dream of ours to be able to travel Australia since starting our apprenticeships in 2017/18. Since leaving we’ve settled into our new home on wheels with comfort and ease.

We’ve experienced rain throughout this week and our great Aussie has provided us with shelter, comfort, and space.

We’ve travelled almost 700km this week from the Hunter Valley NSW to the Gold Coast QLD with four stops along the way Forster, Sawtell, Byron Bay, Tweed Heads for a night or two. We’re finishing up at the Gold Coast where we will be spending the next two nights at a caravan park. This will allow us to be able to get all our much-needed washing done in the caravan and get ready for the next few nights of off grid camping, the plan is to stay at a campsite at Inskip point.

Monday (the day we left) we spent the morning finishing off our last couple of preparation jobs. The caravan was booked in for a wheel alignment then after that we had a last farewell with our families over breakfast then packed the last couple of things into the car and off we went. First stopping at Foster, we spent the evening fishing and taking it all in as a lot of emotions flooded through. We were stoked to finally be on the road but sad to be leaving our beautiful family and friends. After 2 weeks prior of rushing around and preparing it felt abnormal to be able to sit back and have nowhere to be or nothing to prepare or do.

We’ve spent our days making memories, fishing, walking, and exploring new places, cooking some great meals, and just taking in this new lifestyle.

We’ve taken the week to use most of the features that our great Aussie caravan has to offer and have loved having instant hot water especially with this cold weather we’ve experienced. It’s such a simple feature yet so sustainable.

We’ve loved the simplicity of being able to pull up and jump straight into the van. Whether that may or been to stop for lunch and prepare a meal or to set up for the night in a new location.

We are still yet to fully settle into this new lifestyle and we’re looking forward to heading further north for some better weather and more of an off-grid lifestyle.

We can’t wait for this new chapter of our lives to be able to see this beautiful country in our new home.
